– 10.19.09 // EAGLE NEBULA (COSMIC MC) –

The story begins like this: Eagle Nebula and I first bonded over a shared fondness of an Isle Park poem at an Urban Word NYC educator training. Though a brief encounter, I registered her energy and took note. Months later, she turns up at a reading of some of my favorite writers, including Yusef Komunyakaa. Double check. Some time passes before I find myself sitting across from her in an invited round table of women artists. Sallome poured libations and called ancestors names into the room. I called Alice Coltrane. Eagle saw me. That was the beginning of the end.

Fast forward many moons later and we are sitting in my living room on Eagle’s birthday weekend. We still are hella goofy and laugh about the same stuff, only now, we’ve traveled to Africa together, rocked stages together, shared secrets and suffice to say, she’s a favorite. And it’s her birthday. Go tell her how fabulous she is!

Cavalier, of two sessions ago, stopped by after our recording. After my explaining where I think the specialness of the sessions lies, he coined what will now live as the session’s mantra: “The Format: Genuine Moments.” Yes.
